Pro (4.2.8) AFP folder/file saving delays

Postby yachtman » Thu Jan 21, 2010 6:28 pm

Since upgrading to 4.2.8 on my Pro Pioneer, I get big delays in creating folders and saving files using OSX 10.5. For example, when saving a file with Preview, the save status window just hangs at (10-90%) status. But the file saves fine. When creating folders, it hangs for 60 secs or so, then often says that there was an error creating the folder. Yet, the folder was created.

Clearly, something was changed in AFP in 4.2.8. I am not running Snow Leopard, because I am using a PowerPC machine.

I have other linux servers running AFP, and there are no issues--everything works perfect.

I wish there was more love for AFP with the Readynas.

Any ideas?

I too am getting this problem, on 4.2.9 - very long delays during the initial folder copy.

I also often get a message saying that it can't create the folder because it already exists - this is when copying up a new folder which I know doesn't exist on the NAS. Very odd.

Jedis, any ideas???

Cheers.

Same here... ReadyNAS Pro w/ 5 1tb WD GP drives running 4.2.9. I'm sometimes getting long delays when creating a new folder, and other problems similar to what was mentioned above.

One interesting thing I noticed... during this delay (about 30 seconds for me), I see the activity light on the ReadyNAS flickering like mad, but during this time I see no network activity on the computer.

I've the same problem. I'm a new ReadyNAS Pro user.

NAS:
Running 4.1.9
4 x 1.5TB WD Caviar Green -Drives.
4GB memory in NAS
only AFP enabled
journaling off
no AddOns installed
Jumbo-Frames activated

MAC:
MacPro running 10.5.8
Copy from RAID 0 to NAS

Switch:
Netgear GS105
supports JumboFrames

Cables:
new CAT5e

The Performance of the NAS is OK right now.
35-50MB/s read and write.
I had a Problem with the LCC of the WD Drives.
I fixed this problem.
Now, I want to copy my stuff to the empty ReadyNAS Pro.
I drag my folders to my empty shares and after a while there's a message that one of the files allready exist.
There are long delays during copy (The Problem starts at 300MB-700MB).
Maybe this is the Problem?
I copy 1500 files to the NAS (200GB).

Is there a known bug? Can I fix it?

Thank You!

You can try copying the files that won't work atm via CIFS.

Btw if any of running 4.2.9 has SSH access, what's the output of the following code?:
Code: Select all
afpd -V

I was interested in the netatalk version (I believe that's 2.0.3 from the post immediately above this). Apparently Netatalk 2.0.5 is introduced in 4.2.10. You can give 4.2.10 beta a try if you like.
